Pro Staff Shout Out:

Matt "Rancher" Eastman

Pro Since: July 2004

Day 1 baby. The Rancher has been an integral part of Rising from the start. He used to like the 6" work pliers and the ultralights on his vest at the same time. But now he just uses his pro model - which is why we made it for him.

Product History

Design Evolution of Rancher

improving the release experience

2008: Incorporate best features from 6" work pliers into an angle tip design

2010: Change tip design so top 50% has flat tipdemo

2010: Rancher says "it's perfect," so we're good

Proper Use

The Release

Our lippa4Life takes care of controlling the fish, and for anglers like Mr. Eastman, the Rancher pliers solve the problem of controlling the hook. We always advocate clamping down on the shank of the hook and pushing the bend towards the sky. Gravity and a de-barbed hook do the rest and the fish falls off the hook. The picture at left shows this perfectly, see how the Ranchers are grabbing the shank of the hook and it is pointed towards the sky.

Rancher Pliers

Our tribute to a great friend and angler

Unbridled enthusiasm coupled with casting skills result in a formidable angler, and that is the Rancher. He angles in the morning, angles in the evening, he angles all around - freshwater, saltwater, froggy water, if it looks like it holds fish, he'll try it .The variety of his fishing endeavors explains why his Pro Model tool comes in both 6" and 12" versions. The 12" version being reserved for big toothy fish, or small engine repair - they have the reach.

When not hanging big Trout in Utah, Rancher can be seen on ESPN2 hosting his own show for Fischer Productions - Wanna Go Fishing. It's a great concept and both Rancher and the crew at Fischer productions put out a quality show. They get to fish some amazing, amazing areas, check out their website and watch the show -
